About The Artwork
When I think about my grandparents, I imagine what 60+ years of loyalty feels like. A bond nurtured for several decades, both in the good and the bad. Two individuals from different worlds, one educated while the other is beautifully skilled in a craft (perhaps where my artistic strengths originated). Both pouring into each other and setting aside some of their greatest goals to build a family and legacy of their own, with 5 offsprings and almost a dozen grandchildren. 2 huge loses shook them to their core within a year, testing their emotional and spiritual stability, but their love carried them through the moments of high tides. If this is what it feels like to love and be loved in return, then this is how I want to be loved.

Uchechukwu Ibemere (b. 1995) is a self taught conceptual photographer and visual artist based in Lagos, Nigeria. His appreciation for the power of visual storytelling is instinctive and self-developed, capturing monochrome portraits alongside everyday life. While his work is very self-expressive, Uche's photographs are inspired by personal experiences with his environment and relationships, drawing awareness to issues concerning environmental pollution (by exploring the use of up-cycle material) and tackling issues concerning men's mental health while encouraging vulnerability.
