ABOUT THE ARTWORK

A series of my collages “Profession Portraits” is a fascinating immersion into the world of work and creativity. Each portrait not only reflects a face, but is also an intricate mosaic puzzle consisting of carefully selected pieces of glossy magazines. There are no random details here - each fragment has its own meaning associated with a specific profession. By looking at these unique collages, you will see how each element interacts to create not only an image of a face, but also convey the spirit and essence of the chosen profession. These works are not just art, but stories. They talk about how each profession has contributed to shaping society and influences our everyday world. By delving into the details, the viewer can discover new facets and meanings that various professions bring to our lives.

Hi, my name is Andrew Katz. I am a musician and a visual artist. I make collages because I believe that great diversity can create a beautiful whole; And In a way, I believe that our universe is very much like a collage. If you look around you will notice – all around there is room for harmony, spectrum of contrasts, collisions and distinctive shades. I translate this to my art. I was born in the city of Ivano-Frankivsk, a small city in Western-Ukraine in 1959. My first spark of love towards art originated when I was just 6 years old; Then, it was music – which slowly developed into different styles of visual art. For me, it just made sense: The sounds became colours, rhythm became textures – and so a picture was born. For the last 15 years my focus was on collages. I hope you enjoy it!
