ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The figurines are pure abstract images of mythical African creatures in my opinion. They are were cut in my usual spontaneous methodology last year. I was very pleased with the result.

The ultimate objective for me to is create an outlet for all the creative energy which lies within me and to create work which will be sublime, timeless and joy - giving. I love the idea of super-imposing one image onto another, a little like the Khoi San did in their rock paintings. Simply painting over an existing painting. The signs, symbols and messages which they portrayed in their work, has inspired me. I also love incorporating many symbols in my work and sometimes I try to re-paint works and images that I have seen or created in my dreams. Dreamwork, understanding numbers, omens and symbolism has been a lifelong passion for me. Meditation and connecting with Source for me is the foundation of all creativity. I am currently in the late stages of my BECOMING and enfolding as an artist and as a spiritual being in a human experience. Much of the earlier stages were first unsure, then a blocked artist for many years and then a journey upstream, not feeling worthy of calling myself a true artist as my work was very classical and not very modern / contemporary. It was my spiritual journey that really taught me about art. My teachers meant well, but the system of critiquing an art work in the presence of the artist is what really destroyed my inner artist. I have therefore found the solitary path to be most useful as art is in essence borne from inner work. With time I was able to shed the fear which was really like a prison. The inner healing which creating art and writing brought me resulted in a metamorphoses and a re-birth. I re-invented myself and re-named myself and let go of all the work which I had produced under my birth name. My work is now more playful and more about breaking the rules, yet following my own aesthetics. I have found a fondness of collage lately, however, I acknowledge the fact that the creative force within seeks to express itself in many different ways, media and manner.
