Arabian Nights Print

I had an old book of the Arabian Nights when I was a child. I liked the pictures and the stories, overall the sense of energy, they transported me to another world. In general as a child I was drawn to folk tales and fairy stories from everywhere, it was a useful preparation. The original painting from which this is developed was meant to be some slightly other place, I always felt it didn't quite work. Above all else it was just too green. The digital process allowed me to enliven it and alter some compositional balance through the use of vivid colour. The marks at the bottom reminded me of writing and motifs I have seen on Islamic architecture in Spain and India. The various associations and memories melded together.
