About The Artwork

Inspired by Ghanaian royalty. This piece is a celebration of the inner royalty that sits in every black person, and looks to serve as a reminder that black people are indeed kings and thus should have no reservations about owning and existing in our full black selves. This is an idea that I choose to call "Blacking" - The state of existing as a black person. The state of existing as a black king. The creation of this piece also drew great inspiration from the last few seconds of the last recorded interview of the late great Chad Matthew Lamont Butler, better known by his stage name Pimp C, rapper and one half of celebrated hip-hop duo Underground Kingz (UGK).
