About The Artwork

“Orange Crush” is part of a larger portfolio, “See What I Hear”, of illustrations based on song lyrics. “Orange Crush” is a song by R.E.M. that was written by band members Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills, and Michael Stipe. This may come as surprise to some of the fans of this song who believe that the song is a reference to the popular beverage “Orange Crush”, but the Orange Crush in this song is a reference to Agent Orange, a chemical used by the US to defoliate the Vietnamese jungle during the Viet Nam War and left many of those exposed with serious health problems.
