Clues in the walls of Cervera Print

At this point, the unexpected stay in this small Spanish village had extended to four months. There was still no opportunity to move due to the events of 2020. I had walked the small village of Cervera del Maestre criss-cross and by now knew every street and corner. I kept looking for more details and this seemingly simple, old, patched up wall held something of a treasure for my eye; my favourite exercise, try and figure out what was there before, what was the intention behind the change. An elegant door arch replaced with a small, humble window. I hear that at the time when these houses were built, the type of arch or lintel above the entrance door signified how wealthy the owner of the house is. The bigger and more complex the stone blocks around the door, the richer the family. The simple, poorer ones were using an olive tree trunk. This kind of symbolism and tradition must have lost its importance by the time this small window replaced the meaningful door and its frame. The original was drawn on a semi-gloss paper and 0.38 ballpoint pen.
