Figure Study Print

NB: This drawing won "Best-in-Show" prize at The Salmagundi Club 2019 group show which showcases the work of artists who regularly attend the club's various classes and workshops. +++++ My drawings are not only responses to the figure’s structure and the energy of a pose but also to the uniqueness of the subject. Very few of the drawings are done for the sake of a finished rendering, but instead are employed as a means of observing anatomy, form and the character of the model. I use drawing materials that allow me to explore form rather than to plot out shadow versus light shapes, my goal ultimately being to describe, through the use of line, something of the 'aliveness' of the model. In this way I’m influenced by the drawings of Watteau, Boucher, Legros, Pontormo and Cadmus among many others.
