About The Artwork

This piece presents a manipulation of organic forms that are often considered grotesque by the viewer. By removing the subject from its context the artist aims to change the audience's perception of these organisms, helping to realise that all nature is beautiful. In particular, the work focuses on Mycology, an important group of organisms that are essential for the prosperity of the ecosystem. It is the abstraction of aesthetics through simplification of shapes and the use of vibrant, almost artificial colour that gives the work a surrealist quality. This series of illustrations demonstrates the artist's thought process and narratives for her sculptures. Please see website for Sculpture work. This piece was created using watercolour pencils, high-quality vibrant marker pens on 200gsm Canson paper.
