Stand (Extinction Series) Print

Extinction evokes horror, struggle and death. Yet there is also a peace at the end that we forget at the end of a life, as life stops in time and begins living in eternity. The Extinction Series juxtaposes the dark terror of death and the brilliance of eternity as the audience is invited to reflect on the darkness and brightness of the shiny saturated surface. "Stand" arrests us with a plain image of the back of a man. The huge block fills the entire view, imposing yet fragile for the fracturing and disintegration of the surface. It depicts how vulnerable yet strong humanity is. A display of perilous trust in entrusting the viewer with one's back, and simultaneously a rallying call to rise up and follow. This artwork thus is a call, for us together to - stand.
