Recently as our country has strengthened ties with China to improve social and economic conditions in the upcoming years, we are already witnessing a flood of Chinese products/ goods not only in the International Market but more importantly our domestic market and have not only threatened to, but have actually taken over local dynamics. It's interesting to see how Chinese brands have cleverly adapted to and embraced local particularities in order to ensure their success that's evident. In its attempt to expand its influence in the world Beijing is going to use our geographical space to reach the warm waters of the Persian Gulf, in the process ensure complete control over Pakistan. "Our ruling classes, having first lived with the influence of British colonialism, then US imperialism, and Saudi intrusion in domestic, cultural and social affairs. Now having to fall before Chinese imperial designs. So in this work of mine, choice of object are Chinese Soft toys that we come across in markets and on roadside toy stalls. There is this lack of malice and the element of adolescence strongly embedded in these objects but the material used to construct them i.e. wheat grains is an attempt to subvert the jubilation and exuberance we experience while viewing them otherwise, into a serious dialogue with the viewer to interpret the current sociopolitical scenario of the country. Chinese toys displayed in wheat is quite a satirical take as well as an eye opener depicting dominance of a super power on a third world Agrarian economy already battling with prevailing threat of food insecurity. Thus wheat being an important signifier in this case, also I would say in this regard that material is content.
