About The Artwork

Venus is named for it's green color which embodies the fertility of a goddess. Each of Loclyn's artworks are molded through the polarity of friction and flow. Dozens of panes of glass are smashed by a hammer to get each unique shard, then they are painstakingly fitted together to create a shape that tells a story. Watercolors and inks are then mixed and poured through the cracks in the glass and allowed to flow and create whatever pattern they please. Once dry, the glass is sealed shut and glued to the board.

Loclyn began as a representational artist, but always sought to incorporate new mediums into her works. While earning her degree in art, Loclyn was lucky enough to study with open minded and creative professors who encouraged her experimental approach to art. With a new found freedom to explore the limitlessness of art, Loclyn’s own work began to take on a more abstract expressionist style. She discovered that once freed of all recognizable imagery, art becomes a poem of the mind; completely open to interpretation. “There is something therapeutic about smashing glass and painstakingly fitting together the tiny shards to make a beautifully unique pattern. It’s like putting together a puzzle with no set image to dictate the end result; instead the shapes of the pieces are the master.” Glass brings in another sense than just that of sight. The rigidity and violence associated with broken glass evokes the sense of pain. While the flowing natural shapes of the watercolors balance out the sharpness of the glass with a sense of calm.
