About The Artwork
Giclee print on Hahnemuhle German Etching paper. This is part of a series of digital artworks I am making about significant memories from my life, my interest in the history of art, travel and movies. This was done as art of an Instgram residency during Covid-19 lockdown (@t.ransienttt). I thought that in these strange and almost surreal times a virus based tribute to Salvador Dali might be appropriate (cf: The Persistence of Memory, 1931, Salvador Dali). Some specifics about the images used here: the sand and rocks on the sand are based on Influenza; the tree is a variation of Ebola; the “tables” and the peninsular in the background are based on Sars; and the rest of the image (apart from the edge and hands of the watches) are based on Covid-19. Many of the virus images have been digitally transformed/manipulated using my neural style transfer system and Photoshop.

For more than 30 years I have been working in the area of sensory stimulation with a specific interest in visual stimulation for children and adults with disabilities. My work has predominantly been with software to attract, engage and interact with people. I am fascinated by the light/colour of forms and their differing relationships to the objects around them. I believe that nature of the light is somewhat different when it is emitted from a screen rather than reflected from a surface. Some of my more recent software in this area can be seen at www.sensoryapphouse.com I also have a longstanding passion for modern art - particularly the works of many abstract expressionists. More recently I've been engaged in two different activities: abstract, mostly nonrepresentational painting with acrylics on various materials; and using Neural style transfer techniques as part of the process for producing digital works from images that hold particular memories for me.
