About The Artwork

“Ascension” inspiration; an image form an alien culture, a thousand year old relief carving in a German museum, beautiful unique, and out of step semantically with our modern image-culture. I submit this painting, intended as a translation of sorts. To form a bridge to a reality that is mostly lost to us. I want to foreground a world of enchantment, because I believe it is necessary for psychic balance. I believe in this project though I confess I am feeling my way forward. There will be more to come. In this painting, I started with many sketches to find the center of my subject. Then I painted it in acrylics. The painting I scanned, and completed it in vector format. Visually oriented toward the world Will has spent a lifetime looking. Looking at scenes from ghost towns in the desert south west, to Carrier battle group off the Mediterranean coast, from children dancing for sheer joy, to somber processions of grief. Experiencing the extremes of life with thirsty eyes developing there by a visual library of imagination. So much so that the image stacks sometimes comes spilling out in sketches, drawings and paintings. He sees that his subject is life. what is human in the one calls out to what is human in the other in a sort of communication non-locality. Will is grateful to the artists and illustrators who’s works have moved him to “Talk back”. Even if the ideas expressed are at times rather banal Will is working out and strengthening lines of communication deepening understanding of visual communication so when he does have something to say he will have a way to say it. In this respect the digital revolution may also have brought about a new golden age in art.
