This original image is signed and printed on archival Hahnemühle William Turner 310g paper. Often artist say they struggle with a painting, fighting until all the elements find the perfect balance. Sometimes in my virtual studio, I start a fight between shapes and colors. The last one standing wins. I first created a texture for the background. It is drawn by stamping the edges of cubes thousands of times. Then I overlay some orange dots on a grid and start to erase them by covering them with blue circles so that only a few remain. The fight is actioned by moving my hands in front of my computer camera. A motion detection algorithm translates the movements into coordinates for the shapes to appear. I research how to control random feeds of numbers to create meaningful abstract compositions. I wrote a series of digital applications called the Atelier Aléatoire (french for random studio). The Atelier Aléatoire generate images using computer scripts. The software is in constant evolution and is fed everyday with new artistic algorithms. The variables of the Atelier Aléatoire’s equations are fine tuned at every stroke, narrowing the random spectrum to achieve a possible harmony. My motivation is to make emotions bloom on my collector's walls. To seed in my collector's mind aspiration for a sharing a brighter day.

Thibaut researches how to control random feeds of numbers to create meaningful abstract compositions. With the Atelier Aléatoire, he adds a new dimension to this body of work: introducing an interactive questionnaire to compose soul portraits of collectors and passer-by, at a specific moment, imprinting in it the very mood of its epoch. For the Paris Book Fair (Livre Paris) in 2017 he presented an installation with a large format printer where he invited 80 visitors to draw their portraits. In Bangkok (2011,2015) he explored materials like fabric, glass, wood, and metal for his prints and light sculptures. He created a labyrinth of lights for Architect 2013 and the “ Ambulatory of the 5 Eléments” in a lounge designed by Christian Lacroix. A retrospective of his research was held at RCAC. He was a resident artist and lecturer at the Chulalongkorn University. Thibaut now lives in Prague.
