About The Artwork

A cowgirl sits on the back of her trusty mustang. She wears a dark skirt and a light blouse and a wide brimmed hat. With her rifle resting on her shoulder, she looks at you as if daring you to tell her she should be wearing silly clothes with frills and sequins. This is actually the same scene that I built for "Cowgirl Autumn" (https://daniel-eskridge.pixels.com/featured/cowgirl-autumn-daniel-eskridge.html) which was my first image to feature a cowgirl, this being my second. One of the advantages of the form of art I do is that one can change the camera angle and get a whole new work of art. For this one, I wanted a more direct view of the woman as well as something that fit better in a wide format. So I put the scene with the horse in profile. For her outfit, I wanted to go with something that was reasonably historically accurate. I based it on actual black and white photos of cowgirls from the late 1800's and early 1900's. I made this using a variety of digital art techniques such as 3D rendering and digital painting.

I want my art to be the doorway to ones imagination, a spark that leads to daydreams of journeys into history, fantasy worlds, and even the occassional dark lands of horror. Hence, I refer to my art as work as "Adventurous Art". Growing up in the foothills of the Appalachians, I've spent a great deal of time outdoors hiking, fishing and camping in the forests of north Georgia. Consequently, nature and organic forms play a big role in my images. I like to portray animals and creatures, but I’ll depict the occasional person as well; and almost always set in a natural environment. My art has been featured in the pages of Wild West, natural history, and horror magazines. I've had illustrations appear on everything from the covers of fantasy novels to the science sections of newspapers. A few of my works have even found their way into museums of science and history. So, welcome...and sit back and enjoy the adventure.
