About The Artwork

Endless Water refers to eternity, to infinity, never-ending never beginning. Moving to Bali in 2010, I continued to experiment with new forms and techniques incorporating more digital technologies. In 2013, I was frustrated working in my Bali studio located in a rice field, with work being affected by humidity and rain. Rice field creatures, ants, geckos, would walk over my oil paintings at night. Remembering my line from 2004, “Be Who You Are, Use What You Have”, I turned to my Canon digital camera combined with tech help. I started to photograph Bali, the light, people, symbols, water, daily life, objects I would see going around Bali during the day. I also included my photos from trips to Thailand, and Singapore. With a peaceful mind, I leave the art making to chance. My work is the result of welcoming mystery and intuition into the the infinite possibilities of photo collage combined with traditional materials and mobile technology. For these digital photo abstract/sometimes painted over/ collages, I sort and collide ancient symbols, 14 years of my own original mandala art and photographs with open source internet images. My photos are of everyday things I see during my day, especially light, shadows, objects that remind me of ancient symbols. Some photos are from my travels around Asia. Images are mashed up and off center. Photo morphing is possible by the millions of manipulations accessible in photoshop and iPhone apps for photographers and artists. The low res photos taken in the iPhone are turned into high res images with a scanner and the help of photographers software that reduces pixilation for a final printed image. Some time I paint over the prints with oils or acrylics. I build up and tear down the traditional symmetrical framework of mandalas into a mysterious off center, colorful and chaotic new structure that dissolves into the ethereal.
