Gardening Trauma Series Print

About this series: This image is based on one of a series of inks I did on paper in a hospital bed. Yes it no longer looks like an ink, because I did just the ink on paper in the bed with Micron pens, then had them scanned and I later digitally colored them. You can find progress pics of the inks on Instagram @jasondotgallery Here is a paste of a Facebook status I posted three days after the accident: I’m still quite a sedated but here’s a quick rundown on what happened. To the best of my memory. I was stopped at the light on Post Street just before those railroad tracks on McDuff Avenue. I got the green light, and with the 49 cc engine in my Bintelli Escape I couldn’t have gotten more than ten miles an hour as I attempted to cross the intersection and was hit by a car that seemed to come from nowhere. The car facing me swerved to its left as I also tried to swerve left to avoid this car and before I knew it I was slumped on the road near the railroad tracks on the Nighthawks side of the tracks. This was a hit and run. The driver had afterwards hit a tree then abandoned the car. I was slumped on my left side and could see that my right femur was broken. Part of my right ring finger was dangling by a thread, and my right clavicle was also broken.  So with all that I couldn’t get up or change my view. What caught my attention the most was my jeans had very quickly soaked with blood.  Some very Good Samaritans had gathered around me and called 911. So, after that I asked someone to dial Brie for me.  I called her to say I loved her and goodbye because I was sure a femoral was gushing blood out of my leg and I would soon bleed out. I had butt dialed her an excessive amount that day and she almost didn’t answer haha. I feel bad freaking her out but I was so sure that was going to be gone. That’s most of it. Surgery went well but I still can’t walk at all. Getting a bit delirious from the meds. All the nice messages and stop ins have been so awesome. I’m so damn humbled by all of you being so damn good to me. I has all meant so much to me! You have taught me a lot about what to do next time I see a friend Go through such a trauma. After this post, my brother Samuel went and got me a sketch pad and some Micron pens. And I went to town! I didn’t have much else to do. Good ol Brie Akinshas from the beginning of our relationship been a tremendous source of inspiration, and these designs and upcoming designs are based on things she is very into, and in many ways based directly on her. I’ve been wanting to do something like this forever. She’s all throughout this stuff. This is so fun!  I haven’t gotten deep into using micron pens in a VERY long time. This takes me way back. And doing this is keeping me very sane at night as I heal up. Y’all got me all fired up!
