Inspired by the captivating heritage of Gothic architecture, my artwork "Molo Church" explores a unique structure with intricate design. I aim to invite viewers to appreciate the creativity in interpreting intricate designs through a modernist lens, encouraging their imagination to transcend the ordinary. Medium and Style: This mixed media piece is expertly rendered with acrylic on canvas, embracing the abstract expressionism style. The acrylic medium enhances the interplay of color and texture, infusing the artwork with a sense of spontaneity and emotional depth. Additional Materials: To enhance the textural and dimensional qualities, I creatively incorporate mercerized cotton string and boat nails along the edges, adding depth and intrigue to the composition. Surface: The canvas serves as the foundation, meticulously primed with synthetic material, creating captivating textures that engage both the visual and tactile senses. Framing: For an elegant presentation, the artwork is box framed, with nails securing the sides, emphasizing the use of strings and enhancing the overall aesthetic. Installation: Hanging this piece is straightforward, thanks to the included nylon attachment at the back. A simple screw is all that's needed to securely display this artwork on your chosen wall. Born in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, in 1973, Lucell Larawan is a Filipino artist whose work has garnered global acclaim. With two finalist awards at the International Artist Grand Prize Championship in Taiwan and semi-finalist recognition at the national Metrobank Art and Design Excellence, his artistry transcends borders. Larawan's dedication to art has earned him the prestigious Gawad Bagong Biswal from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). He has hosted eight solo exhibitions across the Philippines, including one supported by an NCCA Gallery grant in February 2023. Beyond solo shows, Larawan has contributed to group exhibitions in Taiwan and the Philippines and played various roles in art festivals. Among his collectors are a senator of his country and a governor. Inspired by modern expressionists and contemporary artists, Larawan uses acrylic on canvas, mercerized cotton strings, nails, wood, and wire to create textures that convey connectivity and freedom. A self-taught artist, he draws from peer mentorship with award-winning artists. Larawan's journey, marked by accolades, innovation, and dedication, reflects a commitment to pushing artistic boundaries.
