Sorrow - Limited Edition of 10 Print

This image was created using a filter over a digital photograph -which was originally a selfie taken with an Android phone. The eyebrows, eyelashes, the irises, the lips have all be altered, there's also the addition of stubble and of course the tears which are the main feature of the image. I was reluctant to use this as the cover image for my first E.P. because I did not want to literally appear as "weak". With so much music available though I needed a Point of Difference -and this works. It's my deeply held belief that the reason that so many New Zealand me (and men all over the work commit suicide -is the fact that they won't let themselves cry, this is me doing my bit to create a more emotionally balanced culture. Over the last few years, I've seen a lot of loss -in my own life -and we've all seen a lot of in the lives of others. Freedoms that we took for granted. We've all been "doing time". Personally, I've been losing my mother to a degenerative brain disease. There are my ways to lose someone you love. I am kind of lucky in that I have had time to adjust. I feel like this is the end of the "summer" of my life -and the beginning of autumn. I'm not paralyzed with grief -it's also a time of harvest for me personally. I feel I'm coming to the completion of a circle that has been decades in the making. These will be the cover images of my collection of 100 images. It's a celebration of the power of releasing sorrow -so that you can embrace tomorrow. Strong people cry, -that's how weakness leaves the body and the soul. My culture is very stoic -I know that has to change. Some people would rather die than cry -and often ~they do. It's also a homage to David Bowie, who was (and is) a huge inspiration to me -and millions of others.
