This photograph of a Midwestern USA brown trout was digitally remastered to look like the trout is split between two different realities. Colby wanted to create a sense of confusion with acceptance in this piece. The what if reality that everyday life was a cartoon but the animals in it were perceived in a completely different realm than the reality lived. Such as this stunning brown trout awaiting to be released after being caught by an angler. The golden natural colors with dozens of individual one of a kind black spots covering its entire body in its natural state untouched by its surroundings and in its own majestic glamour. This reality shows individual characteristics can be untouched by its circumstance while the reality around it continues to be dull and lifeless. Colby hopes viewers will feel inspiration and connection to the split realities perceived in this artwork. The subject matter is relatable to individuals that are not yet recognized for who they are besides from what they are environmentally classified in. Individual characteristics are only noticed if one takes the time to see beyond what everyone else wants to see.
