This portrait is inspired by the many photos of Muhammed Ali from just before he started a camp. A boxer is concentrated preparing for the next fight. The man is muscular and all of his body radiates strength. His eyes won't let you go. Piercingly he looks at you.... Why, are you his opponent? The lines in the work suggest that he and you are standing in a boxing ring; all alone you are standing there together with him. Only some incident light and for the rest it is all dark; no audience, no referee, no trainers... Really all alone you stand there face to face with a trained fighter. Yet his blue eyes have something friendly about them. What do I wish to portray with this work you may wonder. every day you find yourself in a boxing ring facing someone else who can be an opponent. Business or in a personal relationship, it doesn't matter. You are confronted with it all the time and.... The one who is best prepared will win. So practice every day because there will come a day when you will face a fight and rest assured if you have not done it you will lose. This work was created using various techniques and intended to be printed in an open edition on various materials and sizes. Belgium
From his interests in both classical art and modern / contemporary art, Belgian artist Jan Keteleer (JanKé) works with different styles. Ancient art is one of his interests, but you can also find examples of his work in pop art and impressionism. If you browse through Jan Keteleer's portfolio, you will find beautiful nature scenes, pictures of animals or pop art-based nudes. After years working in commercial photography, he turned his interest to artistic black and white photography. Projects such as Speecless, Silent Dialogues and Roots with Taboo brought him fame. He was inspired by the problems of the multicultural society in Belgium, the coexistence of different national and ethnic groups, the issue of the language barrier and the lack of dialogue between the "old" (the native population) and the "new" Belgians (the immigrants). JanKé attaches great importance to the social significance of his works and integrates them into the context of public space (stations, airports and public transport), prompting the viewer to react and reflect. His projects have received the support of the organization Sprakeloos, which aims to use art to provoke discussion on social issues. He had numerous exhibitions in Belgium (in Antwerp, Bruges, Lier, Leuven and Ghent), in the U.S. (in Dallas and San Francisco) and in Poland (in Krakow).
