The Arts & Crafts movement introduced the idea that architecture was also to be reformed through traditional building crafts, the use of local materials, and be free of any imposed style. Function, need and simplicity (without spurious ornament) were to inform design, encapsulated in the work of Philip Webb, Richard Lethaby and Charles Voysey. Although Morris’s decorative work was rich, intricate and colourful, he preferred plain and unadorned buildings. The painting is mounted to fit a standard 11" x 14" frame.

A lifelong amateur artist and art collector, now retired, I now have more time for painting. Following in the footsteps of my artist mother who went to Camberwell School of Art and grandfather who moved to Paris to paint, I have built up quite a large portfolio some of which I have picked out to show patrons of the Saatchi Gallery.
