About The Artwork

Author: William Marquina Title: Argonaut of Neutrinos Technique: oil on canvas scrubbing Dimensions: 86 x 104 cm (34 "x 41") Packing dimensions: 4 "x 39" x 4 " Package weight: 4 Lbs Year: 2015 Description: The artist has previously painted in oil a representation of Jesus of Nazareth and once dry paint, subdued the canvas to the action of the scrubbing with a machine to wash clothes. While in this technique, there is a concept of "destruction" of the work through the scrubbing with water, however it has to do with techniques of wear has been making in his works made on sheets of aluminum where does highlight the importance of the brightness as an element in their drawings with light. On this occasion his concept of wear consists of extract or remove the paint on the canvas by mechanical friction with the blades of a washing machine using the scrubbing that in certain areas of the fabric is more accentuated due to constant friction at the time of the washing of the color in the image. The artist conceived the theme of this work relating quantum physics and science fiction with the figure of Jesus Christ as if this was an Argonaut or traveler whose argument thinks he sees in the action of the neutrinos (these are according to the current science, the main Constitution of matter and that makes appear or disappear matter) linking this theme with the legend about the return of Jesus (according to the Bible documents it) Perhaps as a space traveler or crew member of a cosmic ship, where the artist believes pose seen transforming waves to particles making visible their face, effect that recreates the subtle wear of paint by the scrubbing pointed from the Chin of the face. This work is original of the artist William Marquina, has no frame, and was performed on a primed canvas by the year 2015. Key words: figurative, abstract, painting, legend, scrubbing, washing machine, quantum physics, particle, wave, science, religion, Jesus Christ.

William Marquina was born in Mérida, Venezuela. Attracted by the works of great masters such as Picasso and Leonardo, at the age of 11 he participated in an outdoor Sunday painting workshop. After graduating in visual arts from the Universidad de Los Andes, he studied a master's degree in philosophy, followed by an unfinished doctorate, and was a short-term visual arts professor at the same university. From now on, William will pursue his passion for art by experimenting with different themes, techniques, styles and media. Disappointed by the unstable situation in his country, he emigrated to the city of Quito in 2019 where he currently lives and produces his works in the Oskan-huera painting studio, cloistered during the pandemic of 2020 and 2021, he will insist on his series Perceptions William's production has been experimentally versatile and challenges us with series characterized by the desire to search, study and complement the archaic and contemporary. His series are notable: Brillo, Picasso Copy, Matisse Copy, Da Vinci Copy and Aperceptions. In the latter, he highlights us in painting, the subjective complexity in the world of perceptions. In 2023 he exhibited his individual retrospective "Imbrications in painting" in the city of Quito; the International Painting exhibition at Casal Català Quito, 2021 and "Exhibition of Ecuadorian Painting" at the Mayor's Office of Quito, 2019. Other important individuals were: "Cartographies of the Terrestrial and Transterranean", Merida 2012; "Care. Path and Limit", 2007 and "Essences", 2007. Awarded the First Prize of Arts for University Students, in 2001.
