ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Gold Banana Tree Painting by MAYA MAYA Inspired by Gustav Klimt and his beautiful series of nature landscapes painted en plein air, especially the Apple Tree. I sat at peace in the gardens under the shade of a beautiful Maple proudly standing like a lollipop. A slow moving stream meandering its way to the vast ocean past my feet, setting up my paints with Irish Yew rustling behind me in the breeze and busy bees buzzing around the Banana Tree that just revealed it's self to me Andy Warhol was also rather keen on bananas painting a very large one on the cover of the velvet underground, fully peelable. Maurizio Cattelan sold his more modest 2019 Comedian installation while allowing others to touch it in public, a starving artist later ate it. Bananas have been used as a sign of power for hundreds of years. Paul Gauguin made a fascinating post impressionist meal out of a banana in 1891 and Renaissance commissions were judged on their conveniently placed bowls of overflowing fruit from far flung foreign lands. The Dutch continued to display wealth power and international influence with fruit. Eckhout liked to paint bananas fresh, still ripening on the stalk sat on a East Indies Market Stall. These bananas, misplaced, are gold.

MAYA paints the beauty of nature and the hostility of civilization. A free spirit, tortured by conflict. Painting deep in the stunning Irish Countryside, to escape from the persistent distractions of consciousness and life. The ever wild creative, on November the 5th, a long held tradition is honoured. One unsold piece is selected and thrown on to a burning bonfire. Which is highly illegal, but how else do you liberate new creations from last years oppression. And a good bonfire goes delightfully well, with hot coco and toasted marshmallows. On January 1st all unsold artworks increase in price by 8.5%
