About The Artwork
This 2ft square framed painting features a flurry of rust and white gulls wheeling in flight on a matte black gouache background. The folk art feel of the piece is heightened by the simple line work and movement of the gulls and doves and sundry other birds depicted. I seldom paint in neutral tones so this one was a bit of an adventure for me. I like the strange balance between the starkly contrasting graphic black and white and the soft rust details. The piece is painted on a cradled board with an attached pine frame. This cannot be removed and it does add I nice clean finish to the painting.
