“Boys Club” was inspired by a time, early in my career, that I had contemplated signing my finished works with a gender-ambiguous name. I had thought that I wanted people to see that the work was done by an artist and not marginalized as a “female artist”. It would not have been the first time that decision was made – one which immediately comes to mind is the abstract expressionist, Lena Krasner becoming Lee Krasner in the 1940’s. Our modern world is still filled to the brim with “boy’s clubs” and the art world is no different. I pour my heart and soul into my work so why wouldn’t I sign my name? For anyone that is made to feel “less”, never forget to hold your head up and to “sign” your life. You are valuable so own it. Exhibited, April 2017, at the FCCA in Fredericksburg Virginia - framed in a decorative gold frame - Total framed size is 30.5 x 24.5
