About The Artwork
"Button It" is a part of my "Common Threads" series - all painted in encaustic. This is a fun, playful series done in bright, vibrant colors. Encaustic is a medium consisting of Damar resin and beeswax with various pigments. It is worked in a molten state. The encaustic paint is "painted" on a wood panel with a torch and/or heat gun and special brushes. It is an ancient technique which has made a resurgence in the past few decades due to the unique look of translucence and sheen. The work is on a birch panel, the sides are a natural wood that has been varnish. The piece is ready to hang and doesn't require framing. There is a companion piece to Button It - Zip It
