About The Artwork

One of my favorite places is to visit is the grounds of the Indianapolis Museum of Arts. The museum sits adjacent to the 100-acre grounds of the old Lily estate. The wooded paths and elaborate gardens of the estate are a treasure for my floral imagination. I find something new in each delicate petal, on each path that I explore. On one particular visit, I went to look in the greenhouse on the grounds. I took in the scene you see in this painting. The afternoon sun cast long shadows through the window. The light was intriguing to me. I suppose that I paint a lot of flowers and plant life because I have no talent for growing anything. I would have liked to have been a gardener, but since plants tend to die when they see me coming, I have to stick with being an admiring artist. At a very deep level, most of my artworks are about finding hope. As I paint, I find it. There is a sense of something unfolding as I paint. I can faintly hear my life story with a slightly new twist. Somehow, the process of painting sets things right. I paint for that feeling. Once I finish a painting, and the "unfolding" is over, I am ready to move on. Oddly enough, I don't feel at all attached to my work once I finish it, but it is super important to me during the process of creating. This painting is painted on a gallery wrapped canvas with wood stretcher bars. The painted area, extends around the sides of the painting, so there is no need to frame it. It will arrive ready-to-hang.
