About The Artwork

Casablanca is a historic house in Santigao de Cuba, an entertainment place with bar, club and bath, with palm trees and beautiful plants. I was fascinated by this house from the beginning and I took several sketches and photos of it right at the beginning so that I could paint a picture later. In Cuba you can see old American cars everywhere and you feel like you are back in the old days. A classic car can also be seen here on the left. The house is elaborated in detail, with great emphasis on the shapes and colors to realistically represent the scene. The mood is warm, you can feel the midday heat. Everything stands still. The two large palm trees and the rear trees dominate the picture, which is based on strong contrasts between yellow and blue or red and green. The style of painting is gestural and light, some details seem meticulously elaborated, others are only hinted at. This makes the picture vivid, strong and timeless.

I am a Berlin based painter. I was born in Transylvania and attended an art school and an art academy. I have a classical academic education. After I moved to Germany in 1985, I continued to develop my painting style but also pursued new artistic paths. My work is mostly figurative, centered around societal, lifestyle, political and economic themes. The "modern man" with his way of life, as well as his feelings take up the most prominent place. Textiles, too, have a central role in my work. They are often the triggering element, at the basis of the work process itself. My goal is to create an illusion, so that mixed mediums on the canvas are not visible right away. The paint is applied in a thin layer, so that the process of painting is visible. My work has been shown at several art fairs, such as KIAF, Soul, Art Karlsruhe, Art Market Budapest, Cologne List, Berlin etc. I was fortunate to receive some art scholarships and my paintings are also represented in several private and public collections such as Daimler Art collection, Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau Frankfurt, Regierungspräsidium Stuttgart, Südwestbank Stuttgart, Städtische Kunstsammlung Kirchheim unter Teck, Städtische Museen Heilbronn, Landratsamt Heilbronn, Städtische Galerie Esslingen, Stadt- und Fachwerkmuseum Eppingen, IG Metall- Zentrale Frankfurt am Main, Stadt Güglingen, Stadt Neckarsulm, Heimatmuseum Flacht, E-Werk Freiburg, Hallen für Kunst, TTR Technologiepark Tübingen-Reutlingen, Sammlung KOGART, Budapest, Stadt Samorin/SK, Stadt Štúrovo/SK.
