Crochet Print

Crochet is a painting from the Dancing With series, which transports us to boxing matches and their backstage. They arise from the artist's initiation as a boxer in 2019. Two years later she begins to produce the work from the trainings and bouts of the municipal gym of Aluche, in Madrid. From these encounters she has wanted to represent boxers with their own name as contemporary heroic figures, and also as fragile martyrs. From the pictorial point of view, he develops a system of work based on drawings from life, recordings of fights and studies of movement, from which he tries to capture the slowed down time of a fight and its in-betweens. Crochet is a self-portrait composed of pure spots of color and fixing the intention of the painting in the representation of movement through the brushstroke, which traces the direction of the blows. For Blanca, behind the ring there are hidden themes beyond the figure of the winner and the violence; boxing is also a sport of care and affection, of recovery and self-awareness. Beyond the technical aspects of the sport, through the portrait she discovers in the figure of the boxer men and women dedicated to the mental and physical sacrifice of being a fighter, with a spirituality equal to their effort and their closeness to death.
