Art Description

Painting: Oil on Other.

A meditation on political rhetoric and bureaucratic praxis, exploring ideas of national identitiy and promises of liberty and justice. The empty glass and uprooted plant become surrogates for the gaps in cultural agency experienced by many outsiders. I paint on polyester film, its translucency points to a space between actual and conceptual representations. The viewer can see the recycled wood stretchers, sometimes the wire, and construct in their minds how the image comes to be. Viewing becomes a surrogate to the creative act.
