About The Artwork
From the Days of the Quarantine Series. This piece is 30 x 22in. acrylic on paper. I entered my studio as the official quarantine began, declaring my intention on instagram to create and post a new piece of art everyday. People began responding that my “figures” were not socially distanced. Our perceptions were already changing. Each post reflects the emotion and politics of the day, marking this unique time. I have been a working artist for over 20 years. After growing up outside of Chicago, I moved to New York, where I received my master's of art from the prestigious program through NYU and the International Center of Photography. When I returned to Chicago, I continued to work on my art, writing and curating all while raising 4 kids. My work focuses on the effects of genetics, the mother/daughter relationships, and the body. I explore themes of cancer as a metaphor in my own work as well as the biennial exhibit I curate, Voices & Visions, Standing on the Bridge Between Health and Disease. The mind, body and spirit connections and separations echo the theme in art that out of darkness comes light.
