About The Artwork

A morning in the Sonoran Desert (SW Arizona) often finds the prickly-pear cactus blooming. In this clear light the flowers reflect vivid colors that I had not yet experienced anywhere else. They often change, deepening somewhat, from morning to dusk the same day - one more reason I live in and celebrate this desert's unique flora and fauna wonders. The background is painted with acrylic inks. Fine art papers and hand-painted papers were cut and torn for the mountains and desert. More hand-painted papers were used to fold the origami flora and fauna. My cowgirl is a combination of original origami (folded from traditional Japanese papers), and original cut paper designs. I folded the prickly-pear cactus from an origami design by John Montroll; the saguaro designed by Kyoei Katsuta, and the howling coyote by deg farrelly (yes, he doesn't use capitals).

Born on the West coast of the US and raised in upstate New York State I now live in the American Southwest in Tucson, AZ. Making art was my first love as a child, and art continues to impact my life every day. Although I grew up in a small town I had a lot of artistic influence from my family; my father loved art & played musical instruments, one of his brothers was a professional artist, my mother always encouraged making hand-made gifts and cards, and two of my five sisters are also artists.
