About The Artwork

As with most of my works exploring myths my primary concern is the relationship between nature and human kind. The base of this encaustic collage on wood panel is a photograph I took at Fountainbleau. (as a hunting lodge of the French kings and Napoleon the chateau was filled with art dedicated to the Greek goddess). Diana was the keeper of the hunt and with out her permission the killing of animals would be punished, represented by the death of Actaeon. Thus this myth recognizes of the importance of honoring the death of animals. The encaustic media provides my work with a pronounced tactile presence and saturation of color.
