Donaji was a Zapotec princess trapped in a web that symbolizes the destiny she could not escape. She was born under a bad omen, prognosticated by priests. Her father, the king of Monte Alban tried to protect her in vain. Butterflies are her only companions.

United States
My work is inspired by Mexico and its culture. I love to tell and represent the myths, legends, and ways of life of pre-Hispanic people such as the Aztecs, and Maya. Also, today’s ethnic groups, alive and vibrant. I moved to the United States after marrying my Connecticut-born husband. I started showing my paintings at local galleries and getting mentions in newspapers. In Connecticut, I discovered a new life. Seascapes, sailboats, lighthouses, whales, and blue-eyed people started appearing in my work. Later I found Native Americans. They are stunning.
