About The Artwork

My third painting using a billboard to stand in for the ubiquitous smart phone which seduces us into leaving our physical surroundings to dwell in some mental cyberspace. "Nostalgia" depicts a hermetically sealed future juxtaposed with a much simpler existence. These paintings are inspired by the 60's book "Be Here Now". While escapism is a normal human condition, modern technology has made it more of a norm than an exception. The trees which seem to exist on both worlds is a nod to virtual reality

I have enjoyed a successful 30 year career as a professional sculptor in Laguna Beach, Ca. Unfortunately, age catches up when doing the type of physically demanding work my sculpture required. In response, I have taken up painting in the last few years. While my physical being needs a rest, my creative side still demands nourishment. Absolutely love to paint, and have chosen to paint narratives over traditional scene paintings. My work depicts environments totally invented to serve my purpose. My first series of paintings, "Elsewhere", uses billboards as a surrogate for the ubiquitous smart phone and the way it removes us mentally from our physical presence. The various trees/cactus that seem to exist in both worlds are my nod to virtual reality. These paintings are inspired by the 60's book "Be Here Now".
