View In My Room
“Homesick” is part of a working series of memories from feelings and illusion in response to my experiences of searching for the hometown of mind. This series involves memories of feeling alienated and isolated from childhood. While living and travelling in different countries, the artist expresses the contradiction of longing and longing for unstableness and familiarity, where she remains as strangers. The place where she grew up was not native to Korea, where she felt more strange than cosy. Home or hometown supposed to be cosy and familiar but in her case, she never felt that way. Perhaps the greatest feeling that is remained is homesickness even though the place of belonging does not exist. The strangeness in everyday repetition led her to go farther and more unfamiliar and to experience new moments of crisis as I searched for my hometown. The instability of physical unfamiliar spaces makes her to realize that the repetition that was given by ‘Homesick’ was very precious and that the repetition itself was life. This internal repetition is greater than the pleasure principle of craving for newness, and this feeling is expressed as a longing feeling of childhood nostalgia. The sense of isolation has “Homesick” was conceptualized from the sense of isolation that driven me into creating visual the world where I can be comfortable, happy, relaxed and feeling belonged. Objects such as carousel, Ferris wheel, clown, candy, mask, etc., reminiscent of certain flowers or trees and carnival in the background, are memories of childhood and metonymic expression of distorted memories. My process of continuous searching for the hometown of mind reflects meditation. Through this process creating the non-existed place or only existed in mind, I continue to gain a peaceful mind and feel belonged.

South Korea
South Korea- born Australian artist, currently based in Seoul. "The early immigration period was difficult to communicate in the language, but the sense of isolation has driven me into creating art as another way of communication. Since then, art never left me." Since 2015, Eury moved back to Korea and started her art series that involves Korean poetic approach in fine art. The latest series contains flows and rhythms of Eastern art in the absorption of Western form, texture and colour. The artworks convey the world that may not be visible but the dreamlike imagery. The artist's recent works display a poetic space formed by fairytale-like natural environment and symbols with Korean traditional art approach, creating a hidden, mystic and dreamy atmosphere. In collaboration with her personal feelings, she recorded certain visual scenes that remembered from her dreams and imagination.
