ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Painted slowly in layers causing the materials to have a reaction to each other and create a controlled chaos in surface marks and pattern. Inspired by the Cumbrian landscape in late aututmn, as the ferns dye back to a rustic orange.

I've always had a curiosity for the world around us, finding inspiration in everyday elements like expressive graffiti, cracks in pavements, the beauty of nature, and the intricate architectural structures that surround us. Growing up in a military environment and residing in various RAF bases, including during the turbulent times in Northern Ireland in the 1980s with an Irish family, has deeply influenced my artistic vision. Though I hold a strong sense of identity, I often grapple with a feeling of not quite fitting in, leading to a dynamic tension within my creative spirit. The environment plays a crucial role in my artistry, whether it's the bustling metropolis of New York, the rugged allure of Catalan, or the serene landscapes of Nidd Gorge in Yorkshire, my current home; each setting contributes to the tapestry of my work. Central to my practice is the exploration of the sensations, gestures, and essence of landscapes, interwoven with the very language of painting itself. These fleeting elements collectively shape my artistic persona and, in turn, inform my creative process. My artworks are currently housed in private collections across a variety of locations, including: Long Island, New York State, USA Munich, Germany Edinburgh, Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland Cheshire, East Sussex, Hertfordshire Lancashire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, England This stands as my artistic statement, reflecting my journey and the diverse influences that enrich my practice.
