About The Artwork

My friend Barbara is an incredibly talented photographic artist, and her way of looking at the world really inspired me when I spent some time with her recently. I was still under Barbara’s influence when I looked at a fig that I had bought at the market. I looked at its colours and markings and I thought: Doesn’t a fig look like a little galaxy, filled with stars? And while people are spending lots of money to build rockets and dream of flying to Mars, you can also let this small fruit take you on a trip to outer space. And it even tastes delicious! (Well, to some people. I have to confess that I actually don’t like the taste of figs. I’m not even sure why I bought the fig in the first place.) I think this is the first science-fiction themed painting that I’ve ever done. Isn’t the space shuttle buzzing around the figs just adorable?

My art wants to put a smile on your face. All of my paintings tell a story, and every story has a little twist. You'll have to look closely: details matter to me. I was born and grew up in Taiwan, and moved to the Netherlands in 2014, where I am again living now after a 2-year stint in San Diego. You can check out my Instagram for a mix of work in progress and snapshots of my life with husband and cat.
