About The Artwork

This oil painting is another addition to my speed series of paintings. My goal here was to make the feeling of speed and the light at the end of the day to converge to speak to the viewer, to make them feel that this is in fact the final lap...and this Maserati is going win! Painting took around 3 weeks to complete. Done on primed canvas. Protected with matte finish. Painting will be shipped rolled up. The Maserati Tipo 61 (commonly referred to as the Maserati Birdcage) is a sports racing car of the early 1960s. The car was produced between 1959 and 1961 by Maserati for racing in sports car events including the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance classic. It used an intricate tubular space frame chassis, containing about 200 chro-moly steel tubes welded together, hence the nickname "Birdcage".[1] This method of construction provided a more rigid and, at the same time, lighter chassis than other sports cars of the time.

A self taught artist I was born in the late 1960's to a working class family from Lynn, Massachusetts. I spent my teenage years in central New Hampshire working at my father's gas station changing tires, pumping gas and working on cars. This time period heavily influences my automotive artworks today. Cartooning and animation, especially classic Bugs Bunny, Road Runner, etc.., has had a major influence on all of my work. The precise lines, timing, slapstick and artistic design fascinates me to this day. My Pickles McGee character is somewhat modeled after those beloved old 'toons. I primarily work with acrylics and watercolor. I love the colors I can achieve with acrylics, the quick dry time and flexibility of the medium. I have written, illustrated and published a children's picture book called All Cracked Up and illustrated another picture book for a commission called The Football Princess. I have won several awards over the years for my automotive paintings. My automotive artwork is displayed at The Enchantress Gallery in Wailea, Hawaii. Several of my works are currently in private collections. Today I can be found working in my studio in a small town north of Chicago working on new paintings daily.
