About The Artwork

From the Zooplankton series. "Fish Larvae 4" is from a series of zooplankton paintings based upon photographs made by scientists using microscope cameras. The backgrounds of the photographs are natural or artificial, varying by the scientists’ choices for display. In practice. In this piece, the ground was a centimeter scale and the measuring marks could be seen through the transparency of the larva. A large piece of dust or hair and bubbles were also in the photograph, along with water ripples apparent on the colors of the graphics of the otherwise white measuring surface. Thinking I need another element to this composition, I added a blind spot test pattern, the red square and blue circle at each side of the canvas. Fish Larvae 4 has been exhibited at Art Slope, Luke's Lobster, Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY, 2016, Scarlet Seven Fine Art Gallery, Troy, NY, By the Skin of Your Teeth, 2017, and The Cluster Gallery during Gowanus Open Studios, Brooklyn, NY, Small Works Exhibition, 2018.

I grew up in rural Ohio, where in the 5th grade my art teacher began encouraging me to draw. While earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in drawing and painting at The Ohio State University, I was awarded a Ford Foundation Grant. I then moved to NYC to attend New York University, spent a semester abroad, painting, drawing, and sculpting in Venice, Italy, and earned a Master's degree in studio art. The New York metropolitan area has been my home ever since. I now live and work in Yonkers with my husband, John, who provides invaluable support, advice, and carpentry skills.
