Forest Lawn 2 Print

For years I felt that Forest Lawn was the quietist and most lovely place in the city. I would often drive to this memorial park to take pictures or sketch sculptures and headstones when I felt overwhelmed with life otherwise and needed a bit of space. This painting was from a short series of recent work revisiting that place years later. Stone is an interesting material to me because it has a strong connotation but is as susceptible to the wear of time as any other. This is evident on the worn faces of sculptures that stand faithfully above the graves beneath them.
