A combination of painting, drawing and collage of a map, this piece evokes an organic memory of roots of trees deeply attached to the side of a rocky cliff. It has many layers of drawings upon paintings with a layer of a collaged map incorporated. The map give a sense of reality and groundedness within the otherwise surreal and abstract landscape. The map is of eastern PA where the inspiration came for this piece while on a walk. However, the location the map represents does not need to be of significance for one to appreciate the piece. The visual texture of the lines in the map correlate with the lines of the roots of the trees. I believe in our connection with the natural world on which we live. We are integral; we are not separate from it. My mission is to connect you with that idea on an emotional level through my art. I describe my art as imaginary landscapes of organic memory. Each piece uniquely evolves, unfolds and develops through similar processes, just as we each do. I capture an emotional essence which connects us with the natural world. I strive to create images which feel comfortable while also challenging you to decipher and hold you in that moment to reach deeper to a place within yourself that ignites something.

My current works in the "imaginary landscapes of organic memory" series, are created through a process of direct interaction with each piece as they develop. Each piece starts with a drawing which I see as the bones or structure of the piece and from there a dialogue begins. Through a combination of choices, chances and reactions, layer upon layer builds the landscape. I see the process similar to how we develop through our lives with each layer representing experiences built upon previous ones, all which shape who we become. I call upon shapes and textures which I have experienced from nature, which have become part of my soul and where I find peace and safety from the man-made conflicts of day to day living. These imagined landscapes have a surreal element which challenges the viewer yet are also filled with a comfortable familiarity which connects and welcomes.
