ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Grevillea Symphony (2024) 75 x 75 x 2.5 cm By HSIN LIN Affirmation: Practice Love and courage every day. To experience the seasons, it has become a routine of mine to paint the first bloom around my surroundings, during its flowering season. Right next to my studio, there is a field of forest. My creating process normally starts with a short walk into the woods, touching the texture of the barks, and feeling the sunlight reflecting on the leaves and grasses. I then collect whatever I found during the walk as inspiration. Sometimes would be the gum tree, oak tree, pine tree leaves, or bird feathers; in autumn I have acorns, and wattles in winter. There's only one rule for my collecting process, never take from the living tree/life. I collect what had fallen only, and those are the gifts from the nature of the day for me. Grevillea - primarily native to Australia, are evergreen shrubs or trees of great beauty with needle-like to fern-like foliage and incredibly flamboyant flowers. It's one of my Favorite trees. In this painting, I have the grevillea tree at the front and the pine tree at the back. I walk by this particular grevillea tree every single day, in every season, the leaves are fascinating and I have painted them in my ongoing series, but the flowers are truly some kind of beauty out of this world. Words cannot describe how happy I was seeing it flowers this summer, so I chose this colour palette to salute this marvellous flowering grevillea. It is the beautiful view I saw under the grevillea tree on a sunny day. The flower always blooms in its own time without competing with other flowers. May we all bloom in our time in the best season. Hope you enjoy this artwork of mine. -WILD BOTANICAL ABSTRACT SERIES - Artwork inspired by nature in Bayswater, Melbourne, Summer, 2024.

HSIN LIN, Award-winning Artist based in Melbourne, Australia. In Hsin Lin’s ongoing, signature contemporary floral series that feature native and common flowers we know, flowers represent life and each different type of flower has a unique symbolic meaning. Lin is inspired by her close observation of the natural world. Through a process of careful looking Lin is able to capture an incredible amount of intricate detail. To create the larger-scale work, Lin normally spends 6-12 months developing the intricate composition. The fine details such as the tiny petals have been developed through ten or more layers of paint. Lin describes that ‘although still-life is considered a traditional genre, each object in the paintings stands for a different meaning and has its own story. Flowers represent us as humans, vases represent the body carrying our soul, protecting us like a shield. The weaving basket stands for connections—the bonds between families, friends and all the people around us. Even if you are apart, everyone is still being linked together as a whole and we are stronger together.’ Lin’s paintings, a series of flowers in full bloom, remind us that we are alive and that life is vibrant, blossoming and full of potential.
