About The Artwork

My word art reflects the Zeitgeist, the increasingly divided societies we live in, and the problem of disengaged individuals spending their lives in mindless online pursuits instead of addressing the pressing political and social problems confronting every country on the planet and humanity as a whole. Instead of socially conscious and politically active citizens, a majority of the Generation X and Y and Z and beyond seems to be morphing into automatons, just a notch above the batteries exploited in the dystopian movies of the Matrix trilogy. Share my art and join the rebellion! The present piece focuses on the urgent need for smarter gun laws. Few people realize that more humans die in the USA every two years from gunshot wounds than US soldiers were killed in all of ten years of Vietnam war! I do not advocate European-style gun control, where it is almost impossible for private individuals to obtain gun licenses. But we must get a grip on easy access to guns for ex-felons and people with mental health issues and we must have a systematic tracking system for guns. The best solution might be a license and an insurance requirement like we have it for car ownership and operation. In any case, we really have to get beyond "thoughts and prayers" for the victims to something that actually reduces the numbers of victims! In the present case, I first painted a white background and then covered it in multiple layers of metallic gold. Next, I painted the outlines of various common weapons in oil. Then I added the text in my signature font Boston Traffic. Finally, the entire painting is covered in steel wire mesh, another unique and recognizable feature of my work.
