About The Artwork

This piece is about our memories, how they highlight some instances of our past and how they obfuscate others. How they exaggerate certain events and how they erase what we don't want to see. I saw Yayoi Kusama in my mind's eye when she was just a young girl looking for meaning and guidance; how mysterious the world appears in someone's youth. Lots of layers in this textural artwork, lots of imagery for you to discover. Like the layers of your past, they would keep revealing themselves to you, as long as you care to pay attention. This piece evolved from the sketch titled "Spring in Kyoto". I like them both - but now only "Her Spring" exists on canvas. "Spring in Kyoto" is for you to enjoy in print - a momentary impression of spring. Just like spring is, in its essence.

Poetry, music, rebellion, femininity, humour and wonder of my world reveal themselves in images, both soft and hard, always mysterious, always in layers of meaning. My stories emerge like flowers opening up their petals, one at a time, as I try to bring to light all the facets of a certain moment in time, of a beautiful memory. But in the end, or in the beginning, it's all about love. I explore painting as a connection to our human vulnerability, of which love is its ultimate manifestation. https://www.instagram.com/gone_with_chinook/
