Vibrant is the perfect word to describe Patricia Riascos’s art. Her use of bold colors and geometric playfulness creates a style that is truly her own, and the presence of a common theme throughout her work is especially evident in her abstract paintings: A dreamlike character unites them. She doesn’t spell everything out for us… her paintings have a meditative and mysterious quality. In her music related series she gives enough of a story to provide a sense of a place and a glimpse of a moment, delightfully presented in a soft mixture of watercolors and India ink. Particularly noteworthy in her Listen series is the unique way in which she presents the musician’s hands, cleverly exaggerating the proportions yet managing to comply with correct anatomy. What makes Pat different from other artists is the high degree of emotion that she pours out honestly into her work. Picasso has been one of her main influences, as well as Modigliani and his elongated figures full of imperfections. Egon Schiele’s expressive textures and poignancy are a further source of inspiration. Patricia was born in Colombia and now resides in Michigan.
