About The Artwork

A Horse is a formidable animal, beautiful and powerful, the picture of royalty and strength. They were traditionally used in warfare and is the picture of a fierce warrior, running towards the enemy without showing fear. The Butterfly is a picture of Transformation. He goes through a proses called metamorphosis – changes in his life cycle. They are being transfigured or transformed from one thing to a total different one in appearance. New Oxford American dictionary : “Transform – make a thorough or dramatic change in the form, appearance, or character of:” Through our hardships, and trials here on earth we are being transformed from being worms to beautiful butterflies and even warrior horses - all by the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit through the work of Christ done on the Cross. Rom 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this world (this age), {fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs}, but be transformed (changed) by the {entire} renewal of your mind {by its new ideas and its new attitude}, so that you may prove {for yourselves} what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].” 2 Cor 3:18 “And all of us, as with unveiled face, [because we] continued to behold [in the Word of God] as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are constantly being transfigured into His very own image in ever increasing splendour and from one degree of glory to another; [for this comes] from the Lord [Who is] the Spirit.” 2Co 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. We must go through a metamorphosis (be transformed) From being a slave to sin and our own flesh, to being a son / daughter of God. The process begins in a cocoon – in the dark – where no-one can see – in the mind, only by the Holy Spirit. To become a butterfly, the worm must give-up his life as a worm – die to self. He must be set-apart. Then the Holy Spirit can take over and during the cocoon-stage - (rest in the Lord) - He can transform that which I have spoken to thee of.’

I was born in 1971, 29 October and grew up in a town called Vanderbijlpark in South Africa. Since I can remember I was holding a pencil, drawing the things around me. I even won my first art prise when I was 6 years old.I am actually the third generation on my mother's side who shows artistic talent. I attended a school for art in Johannesburg and after high School I started a career in the South African Police Force as a Police artist drawing wanted criminals, stolen goods, designing pamphlets, posters ect. This was the environment where I learned most about portrait studies. In 1992 I moved to Cape Town, South Africa. I met a wonderful man, got married and was blessed with two daughters. I am currently painting full time. I only started painting with acrylic late in the 1990's, doing small projects only for family and friends. I soon discovered the magic of painting in oil and never looked back. After a career of 16 years in the South African Police Service, I persued my dream and started painting full time in 2006.I do not paint according to a fixed "style" and concentrate on various commissions including murals, backdrops, portraits and the human figure.I tend to paint relalistic. I am not much into abstract art but can appreciate it. Every time I paint a figure my greatest goal is to paint the body so that the viewer will fall in love will the subject. The challenge is to paint the subject as a living soul, not a dead figure. One must step away and be touched by the emotion she portrais.
