About The Artwork

This painting of a mermaid and a burst of light is inspired by graffiti style and the vibrant energy of graffiti art. This is one of my series painted on reclaimed wood. I have worked this series on wood to merge the vibrant modern feel with the old distressed look of the wood panels I work with. This one is on a piece of reclaimed ply board and has lots of texture, flow, and interesting markings. The measurement is approximate, as the wood is slightly organic in shape around the edge. Music is a huge part of my inspiration, I allow the sounds I'm listening to, to inspire my brush, tool, or pen movements. I create depth with many many layers, mixing brush marks, mediums and tools. Painted with flow from my heart, allowing my work to flow through me as I paint.

Accomplished textile artist returned to canvas, I've spent the last 18 years exploring texture and colour through textile mediums, and have at last come back to painting with a huge flow of energy! I have two main inspirations, light and flow, and urban city style. All of my pieces are hugely driven by music and sound and movement, the sounds I'm listening to greatly inspire the flow of my brush, tool, or pen movements. I create depth to my work through many layers and techniques of rubbing back and layered brushstrokes. I am hugely inspired by Jackson Pollock, Gerhard Richter, Mark Rothko, Roy Lichtenstein, and Jasper Johns I usually mix my mediums, using mainly acrylics, spray paint, household, markers. I paint on canvases and reclaimed wood.
